About Us

What to Expect

Sunday Morning

Welcome!

You will be greeted by a friendly congregation that loves the Lord. If you have children, they are welcome to stay in the service no matter how young. We are accustomed to and understanding of their peeps, knocks, and rustlings. And actually, we rejoice at their presence. There is plenty of paper and writing supplies available for children to take sermon notes or doodle on. If you ever feel the need to remove your child from service, we have a nearby room stocked with toys, rocking chairs, and diaper-changing essentials. Feel free to use it as needed.

Preparing Our Hearts

Before the service begins, a welcome is given and announcements are provided. We then open our Lord’s Day service with a short reading from Scripture. It will be followed by a moment of quietness to ready our hearts for worship. In our fast-paced world of social media and immediate gratification, it can be difficult to focus on heavenly realities. A moment of stillness helps us break away and prepare to meet God during the service. After this moment of reflection, we pray.

We sing rich hymns, exalting and magnifying our Lord Jesus Christ. Our deepest desire is for our musical worship to support the truths found in God’s word and to give God the glory he deserves.

The Preaching of the Word

Sermons at JBC are around 45 minutes long. The pastor typically preaches through books of the Bible, one passage at a time. Every sermon is composed around a central biblical theme, question, or topic—derived directly from the word of God. The gospel is consistently preached, and the whole counsel of God is proclaimed to the hearts and minds of the people.

The service ends with a final hymn and a benediction. With the joy of the Lord coming from our time spent worshiping God together, many of us linger after the service to fellowship.  We hope that you, too, will linger and talk with us so that we have the opportunity to get to know you!

The Lord’s Supper

Every month on the first Sunday, we celebrate the Lord's Supper together. It is a time for deep reflection, a reflection of our desperate need for the sacrifice that is so freely offered to us. Coming to the Lord's table is only permitted for repentant believers who have been baptized, are in good standing with a gospel-believing church, and have examined themselves.

Who We Are

We are a church of under a hundred members, but we are rich in diversity. What unites our church of homemakers, professionals, retirees, students, and children is our mutual love for Christ and our passion for the glory of God. The Bible declares that there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; but we are all one in Christ Jesus (Gal. 3:28). This does not mean that we lose our individual distinctions or God given roles, but it does mean that in Christ we are all one body joined together through one faith, one baptism, one hope, and one Lord over all (Eph. 4:5). To God be the glory alone! Amen.

Sunday Evening

During the Lord’s Day evening service, we open with a quick prayer and then sing several hymns that are chosen by the congregation. We then spend some time in discussion. This discussion may be in the form of a Bible study, sermon clarifications and Q & A, or a biblically relevant topical study.

Finally, we end with a devoted time of prayer. We pray for our church as a whole, spiritual growth, individual needs, our various evangelistic efforts, our children, the needs of our friends and family, and anything else that is requested.

As always, children of all ages are welcome in the service.

Wednesday Evening

This is our midweek Bible study. It is a time of singing, studying the word together, and prayer. The meeting is led by the senior pastor, but group discussion and interaction is encouraged. Children of all ages and adults are urged to participate.
